How does Sitar change the world? Sitar gives equally deserving children, young adults, and adults a chance to experience the arts, realize talent, and feel better about themselves. Feeling good about yourself is in fact a value necessary to want to make others feel good themselves to. If more people have it we could live in a better more productive world where we wouldn't have to have an Occupy Wall Street, have leaders that genuinely care and lift its people and on a smaller but significantly effective scale more people with an urge to volunteer their gifts. Although he is still a relatively new designer in the global fashion sphere, Tex Saverio remains as one of my very favorite fashion designers. Beginning the quarter when I returned home I wrote a letter to Tex explaining how inspired, or better -more alive, seeing his work makes me feel. This is the truth. His designs don't appear to be about commerce, or even necessarily "fashion" but even better, beauty, magnificence and takes us to a more ethereal place. Here sometimes I'm a little afraid to tap into this, but Tex teaches me a very important lesson: to stay true to your dream and to your vision even if it doesn't seem like what everyone else is doing. -Which is in fact, the best part. Michelle Phan is most likely, no, make that definitely one of my top 3 people in the entire world. I find her journey as a regular art student blogging on xanga, denied a job at a Lancome Macy's makeup counter, and then years later first appearing in Vogue, then magazines across the globe and then becoming Lancome's - the same company the originally denied her (and the world's) very first video makeup artist. So how can I and her fans be so intrigued by her?

Michelle Phan caters to what girls all over the globe are looking for, advice and help from a real person regarding confidence through an accessible way: YouTube. We learned a little about teenage years and the formation of an identity. Adolescents are always thinking about themselves and always thinking about their faces and pimples and blemishes and thinking that everyone is looking at them. While it may appear like 'oh that is so superficial, we should preach liking yourself with no makeup on', there is something so magical about fashion/makeup that it gives the opportunity for a person to think "I kind of like myself" even when they usually don't for just a minute. Michelle teaches a girl to figure out how to do makeup on her own in simple, affordable, sometimes kookie (like putting aspirin or kitty litter on your face), and easy ways to feel a little bit better about going into a world where everyone is looking at you.

I suggest Lancome is the one to recognize the "psychology of Michelle Phan". In being a real actual person, that has a passion to help, and has young people that are drawn to her internationally, she would be the perfect and most profitable candidate as their spokesperson. Very similarly to makeup, we could think about why else do we work out, or whiten our teeth, or decide not to eat? Sure it could also be a psychological study of us wanting to look our best for a potential mate, or job and financial success, but I think a lot of it has to do with giving us the opportunity to approve of ourselves.

Sometimes I believe it's best to come clean and admit to yourself how your really feel. Although these feelings are inside of you and you're some degree aware of it, really being true and honest with your self and saying "this is how I am feeling" really give a moment of insight and an opportunity to move forward. I am not doing very well in psychology. In the morning I am going to email my professor in the morning. This isn't like "omgosh I got an 89 on the last exam I am failing my Asian parents are going to call me dishonorable". This is like an actual get an email from your career advisor worried about you haha. I think I've reached this unusual part of my life where I am more obviously relating "what is important" because with growing up comes much more responsibility and work to do you feel like your are going to explode, so naturally I tend to do jobs that I find pleasure and satisfaction in and shy away from things I find as tedious and unrewarding. Like school. For the first time in my life I find school more of a pain than something that I want to do well in and will do well in. I'm more aware of the fact I'm paying a lot of money to be in a course I have no desire to be enrolled in. Seriously, HOW MANY TIMES are we going to talk about Skinner's box? HOW MANY TIMES. Luckily there are only 2 more years and then no more homework forever!! Unfortunately, with that come the loan letters and big adult responsibilities. Where is the satisfaction Buddah? Life is suffering.
So Michael, this is the part of my life where I confess in utter regret, that I do not enjoy living right now. It sounds so sad to write it "out loud". But right now I do believe I don't like being awake. I think that's why I sleep so much when I have an assignment to do.. the reason why I didn't turn in my psychology project, a big fat chunk of my grade of few hours ago. And the worst, worst, worst, worst part is...I almost don't care. How disrespectful is that. It's really true I feel like. ..I almost fully don't care if I don't succeed in the class. I mean what comes if it? Do I get a better life, do I truly become a better person, will getting a better grade get whoever I want to like me to like me? Maybe not. Somewhere, some how I have to pick myself up again and want to succeed and do well because it makes me a better me. Maybe I believe, no in fact I do believe, that I'm not that great of a person right now. I realize I don't have the greatest sense of self and worth all those things I hope to grant others. I myself lack. How am I ever going to wake up? How am I ever going to stop sleeping? I don't want to disappear. The self I once new and felt like I was is leaving me. -And I have to trap the rest of me right here and go on a journey for the other parts. I'm going to be in school for a little while longer and have to make the best and the most of it. Things aren't always going to go my way but I have to make the most of it. Golly, is this ever turning into a Shakespearean sonnet. Don't they go like "life is this way, woah is me, woah is me, but hey here is a resolution for the last two lines"? haha. Anyway flowers and Michael, there's a lot of things I want to do in this life time. And still a lot of things I want to do well. Like the collection. It's getting a little crazy with the number of patterns now, but I've been learning so much deciding to "work for myself" for a little while. I really do enjoy being a designer and nothing, nothing, nothing else makes me happier and honored right now. Unfortunately these goals and dreams don't always fall in line with school. I cannot believe the amount of projects and competitions going on. It makes me so overwhelmed. I don't yet know how to properly grasp contests and school at the same time. I have a very, very, very, very, very daunting quarter ahead. And all I can really do is pray, and hope that all the parts that have left me, remolecularize and form the day dreamer that once was.

Visual Imagery, PSY 101

I posted this on blackboard a little while ago as a part of my psychology discussion. We're learning a little bit about intelligence and our ability to visualize. I think the last bit might be worth sharing :

Visual imagery is our awesome ability to envision different ideas and concepts about other thoughts, or objects or people. They are influenced by our experiences with the world. When I create visual images with my eyes closed it is like I am using my memory to refer to items and creatively make scenes. The experience of imagery is typically more general than when seeing an actual object. I can image the details, but they are much more pronounced in reality. The exterior of my house is off white with white trims. The steps are grey blue. There is a porch with a white wooden railing and a mailbox and light against the wall. I thought of describing color first. I feel like color is a general describing term perhaps because we learn colors and which colors we like so early in development. Knowledge representation is selective. It is much easier for me to envision the house in my mind than to represent this vision verbally.

Really odd but on topic, yesterday maybe subconsciously thinking about what we are studying now or solely because it stood out to me, Apollo Anton Ohno the speedskater tweeted, and I now retweet,
"Mental imagery - use it to manifest success. Create the plan, do the work, be relentless in your pursuit & leave little chance of failure."
How crazy in line is that? It is much like the example in the text about the girls envisioning themselves working and studying to get an A and then scoring well. Really weird how we can almost shift our external reality a little bit by concentrating hard enough and internally visualizing how we want to act and behave and it can happen. It makes a lot of sense because what is stopping us from doing anything other than what we believe we can do. That's why my definition of visual imagery is our awesome ability.

I was looking for images of the Rainbow Bridge in Odaiba and kept seeing an image of the statue of liberty and I thought this has to be impossible.

But here it is. Glorious isn't she. I think this is pretty insane. Now it finally makes sense to me as to why there was a statue of liberty cameo in Digimon. I had just figured they went all around the world again on Imperialdramon's back to stop all the gates from opening. ...I close.
And it turns out there are A LOT of them, other than just in Vegas. More than 30.

In keeping up with the world

I don't really know why I haven't been posting lately... haha. I've kind of decided to take a rendezvous from talking too much about my life. However I'll confess that I have thought of a lot of posts, but seem to forget a lot of them when I don't write them down. Like my October resolutions including "waking up earlier" and other floating thoughts. School isn't as awesome as I would like to report. Math is really great, psychology on the other hand is pretty ridic. We have an essay due Wednes night, Thurs night, a discussion, a project, and a quiz. ...Every single week. And the week seems to continue to slip through my fingers..which is why I haven't submitted my Wednesday essay yet. Time is moving so quickly I can't believe it. On the brighter side my psy teacher seems really nice, so it is really difficult for me to properly dislike the class and I've decided not to do any more personal projects with deadlines involved.. I know that sounds really irresponsible but I find having deadlines on projects for enjoyment make the month fly by way too quickly. There's so many things I'd like to make, I haven't felt this way in a while so it's very good. And I've been in the company of Allison and bits of thread and I find myself slowly becoming honestly happier. haha We'll see, sorry I didn't mean to sound like such a bummer. I guess it's just late and I didn't do my homework. I've got to get psy motivated! Highlights of my life. I've got Listerine in my hair. It's supposed to be great for dandruff. ...awkward moment. oh, but I hope to post a very happy post very soon!! I believe good things are happening for all of us.

What does "Free Tibet" mean?
Tibet, before occupation, was a nation with an established sovereign government, currency, postal system, language, legal system, and culture. The Chinese government claims that Tibet has always been part of China and so in 1949 China entered Tibet. Chinese occupation has resulted in the deaths of at least hundreds of thousands of Tibetans, the destruction of over 6,000 monasteries, nunneries and temples, and the imprisonment and torture of thousands of Tibetans. Tibet's fragile environment is endangered by Chinese strip-mining, nuclear waste dumping, and extensive deforestation. As a part of China's go West Campaign, they encourage Han Chinese to enter promising higher wages and other incentives. Native Tibetians, stripped of basic freedoms of speech and religion, are also evacuated from their homes, land and cattle in exchange for less than $1,500 US dollars, all of which many have not received. The homes they are to move to have very little space to farm. The development and modernization, roads, cards, buildings, in Tibet is harmful to the ancient temples and wonders inside of them. In protest, Tibetans perform terrible, terrible and unfortunately frequent displays of martydom for their country's freedom.
Two young monks, Lobsang Kalsang and Lobsang Konchok, set themselves on fire in Ngaba county, Eastern Tibet, on 29 September 2011. Both monks are believed to be aged between 18 and 19 years old and are from Kirti monastery in Ngaba. They called for religious freedom and “long live the Dalai Lama” before they set themselves on fire.
So what can we do? We can inform other people about Tibet. :) We live in an insane time when it is so easy to share, tweet, reblog, like information and it touches interface to interface country to country. I don't believe China is a bad country, in fact it is very beautiful and a real treasure. What's the ideal solution? The Dali Lama says it best: "compassion". And while that may feel like a far solution from where we are now, if each of us can have small thoughts of compassion, maybe our physical network/internet, will reblog, tweet, share, like compassion too in the outside world.

I actually first loved Tibet for their beautiful jewelry at the Tibet shop in Adam's Morgan. Here You can see just how colorful and ornate their culture is.

Honestly, I think my curiosity's been rekindled because much of me still feels (and there obviously is) so much to know in this life. And sometimes I feel so wrapped up and distanced from the world. I think most of all I want for myself to learn to live. To realize there are so many calls to life. I want to know what I want to do with mine. So when I was telling Ms. Allison my yearn to go to Indonesia, and she told me how she spent time in Nepal after she completed college. And without really mentioning it, she reminded me how important it is to learn to live. Even if it doesn't make sense to other people. I wanted so much, so quickly. But it's also important to let the universe give you what you need, and then we can get back to our heart's desire. I too hope you someday receive yours Tibet. Best wishes.

One thing at a time

While it may be virtually impossible to wait until one task is completed before beginning another, I find myself writing little notes around of lists and things to do which help me organize my brain and muscles that follow. -Most recently I've been writing little phrases like "One thing at a time", because although yes, there are an unbelievable amount of things to do, if I think about those other things I'm barely function able during the task I'm working on. So I would like to resolve to being good to ourselves. We can do at it all and will do it all. And right now I will finally study for psychology and write the essay that was due at 11:59 last night. I can't let it beat me. We can't let life beat us. External things, stress. no no no no no. Let's do now, right now. Breathe well, be successful. I walked into macdonalds today...now that was unsuccessful. ..so..much...guilt..haha

I do believe I was ready to go home this time.

I am not entirely positive I've felt that way about the past returns. But this time I felt like it. It's always a strange thing coming back. It feels as though nothing has changed but the trees are much taller, and the photos stored on the computer are much updated, and a funeral pamphlet is on the dining room counter. I don't know what it is that makes it feel like you are the same age as when you left and simultaneously beaten with at-least 8 extra years. I don't know what it is. I've decided to take a quarter away from Savannah this time around. It took a lot of thinking of course. -Well, no, not so much. It was really very clear to the interior me that it was important for me to stop. -To repair. I suppose the original plan was a silly one any way. I would take 3 classes every quarter including summers since fall 09, I would apply to new york internships in between where I would hopefully spend thanksgiving, Christmas, new years, and summer, and returning to savannah, all without going home. It seemed realistic. I can't believe it seemed realistic. I had myself programmed. So when I couldn't seem to remain on top of my school work and started becoming extremely forgetful and so, so behind in everything I almost freaked, no I did, and dropped my Art History class, and almost dropped the other two in fear that I might end up failing both of them. I had picked up a new habit to clench my teeth so hard I would develop a headache and draft in class what I knew had to have been a fever. It was so bad. And I had never been so scared of the possibility of my grades. Never in a predicament like that ever before. So I am here, and I made it out. It's almost like it was just a bad dream and now i am awake. Something like that. But in the positive side of the story. I'm here now. floating. I am hoping I have made the correct choice. My true responsibilities always become so clear to me when I am home: to take care of my parents, to be able to take care of myself, and to work my behind off to become a better designer. I can sleep now. Well, I think the ability to has allowed me to go off edge haha. All I've done today is sleep and I am so ready to go to bed now hahah. But I am happy to be back. I should reconnect with the world. When I am in school time goes by so quickly and I am only involved with my projects the possibility of not doing well becomes heartbreaking because that is all I was engaged in. Alright, it's time for me to calm down hah.
Most of all, I've taken a pause because I want to sincerely love fashion again. Haha it's a hard thing mixing business and love, but I am very sure it is possible.
Home is home is home. And if I know home at all, it could certainly be 2 months later, but that does not mean your meal of cake and apple cider has expired. haha. I hope you guys are doing well and have a truly wonderful quarter! Best wishes and *fighting*!

Juan was astonished to see so many vibrant flowers during the frosty time of the year. He cut them and gathered them in his tilma. Our Lady arranged the flowers with her own hands, rolled up the tilma and ordered Juan not to unfurl his tilma until he was in the presence of the bishop.

Oatmeal DIY

Here's a super easy way to moisturize and heal your beautiful skin. Knowing me, I'm willing to try any thing to fix my face, and I must say there is a definite glow that never fails to appear after this easy face wash.

Simply dampen a small handful of oatmeal (you can use a lot less than what I have here in the bowl) with water and then press the oatmeal with your free fingers. Oatmeal milk will start to form but don't let that run down the sink. You want to get that goodness on your face, so I usually empty it over into a plastic dish and then pour it back into my hands and onto my face. Get the oatmeal into a nice mash. After applying the oatmeal water onto your face, go right ahead and apply the oatmeal.

Let it sit for about 10 minutes if you have the time. Otherwise go right ahead and wash it off it you need to. (trust me, sometimes I'm running to class this way). I can't take credit for coming up for this idea. I'm stealing the tutorial from Bubzbeauty. You can also find similar tutorials just like this one online.

The oatmeal is particularly effective because it pulls excessive oils off of your face. It is especially anti-flammatory (relives itchy skin). That's why Arthur and DW took oatmeal baths when they had the chicken pox. I really believe there is an importance in taking care of yourself and taking care of your skin. Confidence is so important in every field and looking your best can help boost such.

I don't particularly remember what I was going to write about. But I am so glad I ate dinner. I feel so much more full after time is taken out to take care of yourself. That and I wasn't running on chips and power ade. I am going to go to sleep in a bit - call it quits. I'm not strong like I used to be. But there is only a little bit more school left. I didn't go to Acess today. I'm not doing very well in it. I've finally hit the block, the stopping point and I'm ready to go home. Weird how saying out loud you haven't seen your family since Christmas makes a sudden realization. Things will be okay won't they be? I mean, life is meant to work out. -isn't it? I once was very optimistic. Let's be that way right now. I'm letting go. Ungripping control.

Hermes stands as one of my favorite collections to look at. Which is so weird because it's not usually my first choice.. This summer, I'm taking a course called Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. Back when I was on track, one of the articles we were assigned observed the folks of the Enlightenment views on what is considered savage, barbaric, and civilized and ultimately how they felt they were the superior man. It's interesting today how we have a gradually widening mentality to other ways of life: adding to trends like "native american" or the gypsy look and acceptance of other creeds and orientations. In this collection Louis Vuitton uses the Maasi colors of the Shuka obvious inspiration. Louis Vuitton's style manager, Kim Jones was influenced by his childhood blanket. And over all its a very travelish kind of look, like Jane and her daddy when they visited Tarzan. Really cool. Here's a little bit more on that.

Influential Person #12, Martha Stewart

You may or may not believe me (...but I think you might this time), when I was a kiddo during the summers and holidays I would religiously wake up in time to watch the Martha Stewart show because I was (and still am) absolutely obsessed with her. I used to want to be just. like. her. She can do any thing. As well as has a governing system over dishware, towels, gardening, stationary, decorating, lifestyle, food and health and an incredible amount more. She's so awesome... and I would pretend in the kitchen I was on her tv show (as herself of course) and my grandmother was my guest and I would explain to her how I would go pick the berries right outside the house with my nieces and nephews as the thanksgiving turkey is left outside to defrost. I'm so weird I know. But Martha is not. And considering all the mountains she's been able to climb over and still manage to be fabulux, I think she is quite inspiring.
